2k vs Khorne

The Khorne army consisted of:
Kharne
Plain Autocannon Predator (no sponsons)
2x Vindicators
6x Berserker squads of eight CSMs with a Power Fist in each, Fearless & Furious Assault.

All the vehicles were demon possessed I think.
EC-AAC
Venerable Dreadnought (TLLC/HF/DCCW, EA, Tank Hunter) in Drop Pod with Deathwind Missile Launcher.*
2x Terminator (2xCyclone ML/Storm Bolter/Power Fist, 2xSB/PF, 1x SB/CF, Tank Hunter)
3x Crusader (5/1, Melta) In Pod w/ SB, one Squad has Bolters, two havet BP/CCW
2x Crusader (5/1, Melta, PF) In Pod w/ SB,  one Squad has Bolters, the other BP/CCW
3x Land Speeder Typhoon Squadrons of 2x LS-Ty (Heavy Bolter/Typhoon ML)
* Deathwind in the Dreadnought Pod is just because I had 20 points left over and didn't have any more models left to easily work in.

This was different, I had rebuilt my list from last time, retaining the full Deep Strike capability while losing Pods (and KP!).  The biggest reason for the change, even from the list on the front page..... Dreadnoughts suX0rz.  I mean really, really suX0rz.  Did I say they suX0rz yet?  They pop in, get a shot to blow some nifty vehicle and die horribly.  There is only a 1/3 chance of killing even a Rhino in melta range.  From the rear!  They are the point threats in a list with that nice melta and they just get shot until they fall down in the next enemy turn.

This one worked a bit better, but as we will see, too many other threats were offered and the 48" range allowed terrain screening to assist in reducing the shots at him, so that the muchly honored Venerable Knight managed to hold on and do a bit of damage.

I lost the roll again, so I got the privilege of going first.  So, the deployment.  I decided to put both Terminators, all the Speeders and the Venerable one on the table (his Pod was dropped empty).  The enemy deployed as shown.
Picture
Terminators ready to climb up into cover, Dreadnought can break left or right as needed and the Speeders can pop out in lots of different ways. As you can see, our honorable Techmarines managed to use some xenos technology to make servitor gunships to double our Speeders' firepower.
Picture
From left to right: 2 Rhinos sideways, 2 Vindicators, Kharn's Rhino, Predator, 2 Rhinos, and the sixth Rhino behind the Predator.
Turn 1BT: Moved the Terminators (Cyclones leading) up into the cover to get overwatch.  The Venerable went right along the hill in the center of the picture, the Speeders behind that hill split to the sides.  The last Speeders eased up the track to get a shot.  Note, this is considered open terrain although you get cover & obscuring from the flanks plus it is a little hill.   Cute bit of terrain.

Profitable shooting.  I came in today with the purpose of putting the Speeders (at least) on the field to snipe and pop transports as early and often as possible.  Results:
3 Rhinos exploded (five Berserkers dead in the process), 1 Rhino wrecked and since I had a flank shot and the only one unobscured from the right hand Speeders, the Predator was wrecked.

Oh yes, there was a bit of a hot hand on the dice I'd just bought before the game (I'd lost my can of dice somewhere!).  I got an excellent Alpha Strike off on turn 1 with six units managing to destroy five vehicles.  Granted that there were a lot of shots going out and the Predator was killed by losing its weapon, being immobilized and then hit again by a Speeder squadron on the flank armor after the Rhino next to it exploded and one of the Rhino's wrecked was a set of three glancing hits from heavy bolters which came up 5s & 6s on the damage table to cause the wreck.
Picture
Getting on the firing line. The holes in his line are exploded and lots of Berserkers are now looking at long walk to contact under fire.
Picture
Another view of carnage. Note that I moved the Dread out and way from the Terminators a bit to try to draw out the Vindicators and get them to show a flank to the Speeders on the left.

A closer view of the track over a hill terrain piece.
Turn 1CSM:  Despite the ouchies, the enemy pushed forwards.  The last two Rhinos pushed forward and popped smoke, the left Vindicator moved up and the right one moved at cruising speed behind it to get into firing position for next turn and popped smoke.  The two dismounted squads on the left moved behind cover, the ones on the right moved up behind the advancing Rhinos and then ran to start flanking out.  Only shot hitting was a dead on blast by the Vindicator hitting the Terminators on the left, only one Cyclone Terminator survived.

Chaos maneuvering, Kharn and his squad behind the little hill in the center.

Overview of positions at the end of Turn 1.
Turn 2BT:  Time for the Pods to fall.  Three Crusaders dropped in.  From left to right:
The first (BP/CCW) by the Vindicators as a suicide melta squad and to use their bodies and pod as speed bumps.  IIt shifted to the right a little.
The second (BP/CCW/PF) dropped inbetween the center hill and the hill where the left hand Terminator squad was to hold that flank down.  No scatter.
The third (Bolter/PF) dropped in front of the Terminators on the right to provide support/bubble wrap for when I moved the Dreadnought up.  Both were to screen the Terminators from the two Rhinos full of Berserkers plus a foot squad coming in.

The rest of the movements are detailed in the captions.  Shooting was good again.  On the left, the last Cyclone Terminator, suicide melta and left Speeders managed to immmobilized the right hand Vindicator.  On the right the Dreadnought wrecked one Rhino and then the killing began.  Massed frag missiles, storm bolter and heavy bolter fire rained down on the three exposed squads around Kharn's Rhino.  They were packed in tightly and in the end 13 CSMs were down, including the entire squad from the newly wrecked Rhino.
Picture
The last squad left of three is behind Kharn's Rhino under the smoke. At bottom left, the Venerable is just appearing, closer than I like, but screening the Terminator squad behind him.
Picture
Another view, notice the squad hiding behind the Vindicators and wrecked Rhino.
Picture
Shifted the right Speeders to the right and moved the center pair at cruising speed to get a shot at the Berserkers. I needed the frags anyway. HEY! What is that in the top right? Look, my missing dice can and I cannot see it.
Picture
The three drop pods. The three pods at the top left are in the holding area off the board.
Picture
Popped the Speeders over the woods and moved the surviving Terminator across the road, couldn't quite make it into the other woods.
Turn 2CSM:  He continues the charge, but I cannot think of anything else he can do.  Kharne's Rhino pulled up, dropped Kharne and he assaulted the Dreadnought, then consolidated back out of LOS of the four Speeders to the right.  His Vindicator's shot scattered into dead ground.

Picture
The last three models from a squad explode one pod, the other one destroyed the weapon on the other Pod. Notice the squad popping out between the Vindicator with smoke and the hill.
Picture
End of turn 2. The pod full of bolter Marines was supposed to be out by the wrecked DN. At the back of the Rhino is Kharn hiding from the fire of the Speeders after making the kill.
Turn 3BT:  Tightening the noose.  Good dice on turns one and two while exploiting the range differential made this into a mopping up operation.  Body count as I start this turn:
CSM: Vindicator immobilized, Predator wrecked, 2 Rhinos wrecked, 3 Rhinos exploded and 18 of 48 Berserkers dead.
BT:  Venerable DN wrecked, Pod exploded, Pod lost weapon, 4 Terminators and 1(!!!) Initiate dead.

Two of my three remaining Pods dropped in, the other bolter squad and the DN empty pod.
Picture
I dropped the bolter squad off on the flank for insurance and moved one Speeder squadron flat out across the board. The Crusaders on the close hill have shot, assaulted and killed the partial squad that had destroyed the storm bolter on their ride and then returned to cover. Another turn and still haven't seen the dice can sitting there at the end of the board.
Picture
I shifted the Crusader squad by his Vindicator away from their dead pod and I think he thought I was going to try for the Vindi again, but instead I turned my guns on the Berserkers boiling out from behind the hill (bad dice on their assault move) and assaulted them with AACNMTO saving my arse. The last three survivors consolidated in between the two Vindicators.
Picture
There is a similar picture above. Difference? Kharn's Rhino and squad are dead. Opened up and died in a hail of crossfiring bolters. 14 more CSM died this turn. For those noticing and following the saga of the dice can, I did notice it moving stuff in turn 4, but I don't have any pictures of this important event.
Picture
Ahh, I forgot about that other squad, running back to engage me. They don't know what is about to happen to them...
Rest of the game:  Kharn assaulted the Terminators and died for his efforts but took two with him.  The "hidden" squad tried to break out but ended up getting left hanging in LOS of everyone, there were no survivors.  The little remnant squad above explodes the immobile Vindicator at the cost of one Initiate, one Speeder squadron with a flank shot explode the other one.  That last pair of Berserkers tried to get across the open ground to kill something, but lots of stray fire finished them.  Yes, this was a tabling by turn four.

Lessons Learned:
1)  Not dropping in their face piecemeal so they have easy pieces to make a meal on works well.
2)  Range and Torrent of Fire with missiles rule.
3)  I got my arse kicked, but it really was a whole lot more fun to come down in a firestorm of Deathwinds and close quarters firefight.  You know, if GW happens to include my two big wishes in the new codex, I'm going to be a happy camper.  Assault out of pods and RZ into close combat.  Be still my heart!
4)  I'd rather pay for 2x Tank Hunting Cyclone Terminator Squads than 3x MM/HF, EA Dreadnoughts.  More survivable and a lot more firepower.
5)  I need more Speeders!  And I hate putting those things together.  For trivia, I got a deal on a cheap Speeder kit and it ended up being an old(?) one with the side panels attached to the top.  If that thing is easier to assemble, I'm going to be seriously irked at GW.
