Gaming the NOVA format?

Interesting read here at 11th Company where the case gets made for how Blackmoor "gamed" the NOVA format with his "substandard" list to make it work. Specifically, using the BLOS to preserve units + Grand Strategy to make almost everything troops + the rule for troops counting for full squad VP for quarters if any models survive + extremely low KP count (8).

Hmmmm....list building to fit the format of the tournament, including its terrain. IOW, building for the NOVA meta, which is what we will probably see a lot of next year and in the future until it becomes a case of gaming the system rather than playing the game being the prime determinant of victory.

Hell, its what I'm going to do. Both of my armies: Black Templars and Dark Eldar are going to be taking huge influences from the terrain/missions from Nova Open. Because quite a few GTs run similar styles because of the success rate, its likely I'll be in a good position to compete at any of them.

WargamesCon and Adepticon are different beasts though, as both generally make up their own missions prior to the tournament. WGC is much better at keeping things competitive, however. Adepticon has that stupid ass INAT FAQ that they use, which essentially changes 40k into "Our Way 40k" with game changing rulings. Plus, they dropped the points down to 1750, which I'm not a fan of. Then again, MVBrandt with his terrain ideals kind of does that too.

Its unfortunate that Adepticon wasn't in Texas and WargamesCon wasn't in Chicago, as I'd be willing to go to WGC...I'm not going to Adepticon. Chicago is just a small jump away from MN. :)
