Stormraven?  Really?  Why?

Faeit 212 is calling it official now, Death From the Skies, a rules "compendium" (read rehash) of current flyers and supposedly gives C:SM and BT access to the Stormraven transport.  So, we want the advertised "LR of the skies" available to us?  At pretty much the same cost as a LR?  Or more depending on the load out.  You know, that costs enough points to buy two (2), count them two (2) Valkyries.  Anyway, depending on the status of this book as far as "official" (IOW, do they update the FAQs to reflect the changes in the units?), it may or may not matter.

OTOH, a Stormtalon would probably be interesting, the price point is a lot lower with pretty much the same loadout of antiair weaponry, the biggest difference being the ability to swap out the assault cannon on the SR plus the ability to pay for hurricane bolter sponsons.  The ST gets stuck with its assault cannon, but can get the same Typhoon ML for its heavy bolters as the SR.

My big question...If we cannot afford LRCs, then can we afford its flying equivalent?

Honestly? I'm all for getting the Stormbrick. It fills a gaping huge hole that pure BT lists had: Flyers. While it doesn't have as much firepower as the Heldrake does, it is relatively difficult to kill and gives us adequate Flyer-defense. If they keep the points as is, a bare-minimum SR costs 200 points. Which is fine by me. I'm curious as to what type of missile they are going to give us though...

I'm guessing a S6 AP3 blast or direct fire. My biggest issue is cost in points compared to the value received. A pair of Necron Night Scythes will probably take it down in one pass (~3.6 glances), and they are the same price. Right now I'm operating on the theory that you need two AA assets at 1850 (three at 2000). A flyer is one AA asset, a Hydra is one, a Quad cannon is one and a pair of semi-AA units count as one.

By semi-AA I refer to Annihilation Barges, AC Heavy Weapon Squads with a CO Cmd to give them TL. or any other unit that has a reasonable chance of reliably scoring a HP on a flyer and doesn't have another primary job, my big NW squad being an example of one that is technically semi-AA in RF range, but should never be used as such if there is any other potential target in range.

On that basis, there needs to be either another flyer or an ally bringing it in. Now, for a bit more than a pair of Valks, I could bring in a pair of Stormtalons and that sounds like an interesting idea there.
