I also note that it avoids Terminator squads entirely because they will have to take the concentrated firepower of the opponent, supposedly as a weakness, but I'll note that Terminator squads are a lot more durable than Dreadnoughts and the long range of the Cyclones lets you avoid a lot of that firepower in most lists, while area terrain gives you the common 4++ save.
So, I have company coming and here I am sorting the piles of paper on my desk into new piles for review or the recycle bag. I came across a printout of a scratch tactica for Max Body Drop Pods using Black Templar. I think it was from Bolter & Chainsword, but I forget the author. Something I notice, it touts having a lower KP than the MSU versions, but not so much I'm thinking. After all, it has 3x Elites, 3x FA, 4xTroops 7xDrop Pods & 1xHQ in the 1500 point version. Which gives it 18 KP. At 1500 points! In keeping with the formula of 1 Troop/400, at 2k it would add 4 KP for two Troop choices bringing it up to 22 and the only way to avoid more KP would be to add another pair of Typhoon Speeders. That is not "less" KP.

I was working through the second part of Rethinking the Deep Strike List when I noticed something odd. My figures and Nike's figures for Marshal Laeroth's Gunline list don't seem to be adding up, so I'm going to redo them and see what the variance is.
Of course, the amusing bit, when I was first looking over the various 40k armies, my first love was Sisters of Battle, but at those prices and the economic constraints I was under at the time, there was no way I could afford them. In fact, the main reason I ended up with the Black Templars (after discarding the idea of Space Marines at all) was a random comment somewhere that called the Black Templars the "Sister" Marines. My second choice was the Necrons and guess what is about to come out now... In terms of the new NOVA terrain meta....
The following is from Marshal Laeroth and is his version of the "Defensive Drop Pod" list. HQ: 2x Castellan w/ Power Weapon and Combi-Melta; 3 Command Squad Initiates w/ 2 Meltaguns & 1 Bolter; 1 Apothecary w/ Bolter and Narthecium; 1 Command Squad Sergeant w/ Bolter. Mounted in a Drop Pod. [480] 1x Emperor's Champion w/ Black Sword, Bolt Pistol, Armor of Faith, Frag Grenades, and the Vow: "Accept Any Challenge, No Matter the Odds." [140] Elites: 3x Dreadnought w/ Assault Cannon, Heavy Flamer, and Extra Armor. Mounted in a Drop Pod. [450] Troops: 6x Crusader Squad: 5 Initiates w/ 4 Bolters & 1 Meltagun. Mounted in a Drop Pod. [720] Fast Attack: 3x Land Speeder Squadron: 1 Land Speeder w/ Heavy Bolter and Typhoon Missile Launchers. [210] Total Points: [2000] |
